Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), established in 1989 and named after the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Yashwantrao Chavan, is the state open university of Maharashtra headquartered in Nashik. YCMOU is one of India's largest open universities, serving over 8 lakh students annually through distance and open learning mode across all districts of Maharashtra and beyond. The university offers over 150 programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, Technology, Education, Management, Law, Agriculture, and Health Sciences — all through flexible distance learning that enables working professionals, rural learners, homemakers, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education. YCMOU holds NAAC A accreditation and is UGC recognised. The university has a network of over 2,000 Study Centres across Maharashtra, making it one of the most geographically distributed higher education providers in India. YCMOU's Centre for Innovation in Open and Distance Education (CIODE) is a national resource for ODL methodology.
