About
National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) is one of India's 31 National Institutes of Technology, established in 1886 as Bihar College of Engineering — one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia — and reconstituted as NIT in 2004. As an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, NIT Patna is the apex engineering institution of Bihar and Jharkhand. Located in Ashok Rajpath, Patna, in close proximity to the Bihar government secretariat and the Ganges river, the institute offers B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, and PhD programmes across 13 departments including Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Architecture, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The institute holds NAAC A accreditation. Despite being one of the smaller NIT campuses (46 acres in an urban setting), NIT Patna produces engineering graduates with strong foundational skills, many of whom crack UPSC, GATE, and top tech company interviews. The institute's annual technical festival Anveshan and cultural festival Aagman are significant events in Patna's academic calendar. Research collaborations with IIT Patna and Patna University strengthen the academic ecosystem.
