About Me
Patna University, established in 1917, is one of India's oldest universities and the premier teaching university of Bihar. Located in a heritage campus in the heart of Patna along the banks of the Ganges river, Patna University is the mother institution of higher education in Bihar and Jharkhand. The university comprises six constituent colleges — Patna College (est. 1863, one of India's oldest degree colleges), Science College, Patna Women's College, Magadh Mahila College, Patna Law College, and BN College — and affiliates over 14 colleges in Patna district. Patna University offers programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Social Science, Music, Fine Arts, and Education. The Science department has produced notable alumni in ISRO and CSIR. The Law college has produced many High Court and Supreme Court judges. Patna University holds NAAC B+ accreditation. The heritage buildings — particularly the Patna College main building, designed in colonial Indo-Saracenic style — are architectural landmarks. The university's annual literary festival, cultural programmes, and the historic Patna College debate legacy make it a vibrant intellectual hub.
