Assam Engineering College

Assam Engineering College (AEC), established in 1955, holds the distinction of being the oldest engineering institution in Northeast India. Located in Jalukbari, Guwahati, adjacent to Gauhati University, AEC has been the premier technical college of the region for nearly seven decades. The college is affiliated with Gauhati University and approved by AICTE, offering B.Tech, M.Tech, and MCA programmes across several engineering disciplines.

The college was established by the Government of Assam with the mission of creating a pool of technically trained professionals to support the infrastructure and industrial development of the northeast. Over the years, AEC has produced thousands of engineers, technologists, and managers who serve in leading roles across public sector undertakings, oil and gas companies, IT firms, and government departments throughout India and abroad.

AEC offers B.Tech programmes in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Technology. Postgraduate programmes in Engineering and a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) provide advanced technical education for working professionals and fresh graduates.

The campus of AEC is a sprawling green estate in Jalukbari, one of the most educational zones in Guwahati. The institute has a dedicated central library, advanced computational and simulation labs, a workshop complex, and well-equipped science and engineering laboratories. The college student body — the AEC Students' Union — is one of the most active in Assam, organising the annual techno-cultural fest, intercollegiate competitions, and social service initiatives.

A dedicated Training & Placement Cell maintains active relationships with companies in oil and gas, IT, construction, and power sectors. Major recruiters include Oil India Limited, ONGC, BPCL, Infosys, Wipro, BHEL, L&T, and various state government departments. Graduates of AEC are known for their practical engineering skills and strong foundation in analytical thinking, making them sought-after professionals in competitive technical domains.
