Mangalore University

Mangalore University, established in 1980 as a bifurcation of Mysore University, is the state affiliating university for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka. Located at Mangalagangothri, a 360-acre campus 15 km east of Mangaluru city, the university offers programmes through its 200+ affiliated colleges and campus departments. Mangalore University holds NAAC A accreditation. The university is strong in Marine Biology (with research access to the Arabian Sea coast), Biosciences, Commerce and Management (reflecting Mangaluru's position as a major banking hub — Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, Karnataka Bank, Vijaya Bank all originated here), and Tulu language studies. The Department of Tulu Studies is a national centre for the Tulu language — spoken by 1.8 million people in coastal Karnataka and claimed as India's most ancient Dravidian language. The university's Management Studies department is popular among students from Mangaluru's thriving banking, IT, and port trade ecosystem. Affiliated engineering colleges and medical colleges (including Kasturba Medical College, Manipal) follow Mangalore University curriculum in the pre-deemed era.
