About Me
National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (NIT JSR), established in 1960 as Regional Engineering College and granted the NIT status in 2002, is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and an Institute of National Importance. Located in Jamshedpur, the industrial hub of Jharkhand and close to Ranchi, NIT Jamshedpur draws students from across India and has established itself as a significant centre for engineering education and applied research in the Jharkhand region.
The institute offers B.Tech programmes in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Production & Industrial Engineering. M.Tech programmes across several specialisations, MCA, MBA, and Ph.D programmes are also available, attracting students with strong academic foundations seeking advanced technical and research training.
NIT JSR benefits from its location in one of India's most industrialised cities — the home of Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and a large cluster of engineering, metallurgical, and manufacturing enterprises. This proximity translates into rich opportunities for industrial training, collaborative research, live projects, and campus placements. The institute has formal collaborations with industry partners and government agencies in Jharkhand for research on metallurgy, materials science, industrial engineering, and environmental engineering.
The campus of NIT JSR, spread over 430 acres, provides a spacious and well-equipped academic environment. Research facilities include advanced materials testing labs, a computational fluid dynamics lab, a VLSI design lab, and a centre for energy systems. The central library houses a comprehensive collection of technical literature and provides access to major international research databases.
Student life at NIT JSR is enriched by the annual technical festival Ojass and cultural festival Pravah, which draw participants from across the country. Student chapters of IEEE, SAE, and ISTE are active in organising technical workshops, coding competitions, and industrial visits. NIT JSR alumni are well-established in industrial conglomerates, IT majors, consulting firms, and research institutions across India and internationally.
