About Me
Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, is one of the oldest and most respected management institutions in India focused on the intersection of management education and social development. Established in 1955 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), XISS has dedicated seven decades to producing socially conscious managers, development professionals, and HR practitioners who serve organisations across the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
XISS offers a two-year PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) programme, approved by AICTE, with specialisations in Human Resource Management, Rural Management, Finance & Control, and Information Technology. These programmes are designed to combine rigorous management education with a deep understanding of India's social and economic realities, with special emphasis on the tribal communities and development challenges of Jharkhand and the broader eastern India region.
The institute is renowned for its HR Management programme, which is consistently ranked among the best HR management programmes in India. Graduates from the HRM specialisation are placed in leading companies across FMCG, IT, manufacturing, BFSI, and NGOs. The Rural Management programme is unique in its focus on rural entrepreneurship, microfinance, and development management, preparing graduates to work with organisations such as NABARD, development banks, NGOs, and rural enterprises.
The XISS campus in Ranchi is a serene and intellectually stimulating environment. The institution emphasises values-based education — integrity, service to the marginalised, ecological responsibility, and social justice are woven into the curriculum and extracurricular life. Industry interface through live projects, summer internships, and the strong alumni network ensures excellent career outcomes for graduates.
Alumni of XISS hold leadership positions in companies such as Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, ICICI, NABARD, and numerous development sector organisations. XISS has produced Indian Administrative Service officers, senior HR directors, and globally recognised development practitioners, cementing its reputation as a management institution with purpose and principle.
