About Me
Agra College, established in 1823, is one of the oldest colleges in India and holds the distinction of being the oldest government college in North India. Founded during the early British administration of the North-Western Provinces, the college has witnessed and participated in over 200 years of Indian history — from the colonial era and the independence movement to post-independence nation-building. Located in the heart of Agra near the iconic Taj Mahal, Agra College is affiliated to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University and is a constituent government college of the Uttar Pradesh government. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in arts, science and commerce, with disciplines spanning Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, History, Economics, Hindi, English, Sociology and more. The sprawling campus features heritage architecture blended with modern academic facilities, giving it a unique character that combines historical grandeur with contemporary functionality. The college has been the alma mater of numerous distinguished alumni who have made contributions to law, politics, science, literature and public service. Its alumni network includes freedom fighters, judges, educators and civil servants who shaped the trajectory of independent India. The faculty at Agra College comprises experienced academics, several of whom have published significant research in their respective fields. The college maintains an active library with a substantial collection of books and journals. Cultural and academic societies — including debate clubs, science associations and literary societies — have been active at Agra College for decades, nurturing well-rounded graduates. As a government institution, Agra College charges very nominal fees, making quality higher education accessible to students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
