About Me
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (formerly Agra University), established in 1927, is one of the oldest and largest state universities in Uttar Pradesh, affiliating over 300 colleges across the Agra Division including the districts of Agra, Firozabad, Mathura and Mainpuri. Named in honour of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar — the architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice — the university carries forward a mission of inclusive, equitable education. The university offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in arts, science, commerce, law, education, social work, library science and fine arts. Its constituent colleges and affiliated institutions serve hundreds of thousands of students, making it one of the larger affiliating universities in north India. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University has a long tradition in the humanities and social sciences: its faculties of law, education and social sciences have produced generations of lawyers, teachers, administrators and social reformers who have shaped life in the Braj region. Research at the university encompasses Hindi literature, Braj Bhasha studies, ancient and medieval Indian history (enriched by Agra's proximity to Mughal heritage sites), social anthropology and political science. The university is also home to institutes offering engineering and management programmes at the postgraduate level. The campus in Agra is well-connected, with the main administrative buildings centrally located. Affiliated colleges span the heartland of Uttar Pradesh, bringing higher education within reach of students from rural and semi-urban backgrounds. The university periodically organises national and international seminars that draw scholars studying Ambedkarite thought, Dalit literature, constitutional democracy and social justice.
