About Me
Gujarat University, established in 1949, is the oldest and largest state university in Gujarat, with its main campus spread across Navrangpura in the heart of Ahmedabad. As an affiliating university, it governs over 200 colleges across the Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, and Mehsana districts, collectively serving more than 4 lakh students — making it one of the largest universities in India by enrolled student population. The university offers undergraduate programmes in Arts (BA), Science (BSc), Commerce (BCom), and Law (LLB); postgraduate programmes including MA, MSc, MCom, MBA, MCA, and MPharm; and doctoral (PhD) programmes across more than 50 departments. Admission to science undergraduate programmes is through GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), while arts and commerce admissions are merit-based. Gujarat University's Convocation Ground is a historic cultural landmark in Ahmedabad, regularly hosting state-level events, concerts, and public gatherings beyond academic ceremonies. The university has produced generations of Gujarat's teachers, civil servants, doctors, lawyers, and business leaders. NAAC accreditation is B++. The low fee structure — ranging from ₹6,000 to ₹20,000 per year for most programmes — makes it accessible to students across economic backgrounds, fulfilling its mandate as a public institution of higher learning.
