About Me
Rishi Sunak served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 2022 to July 2024 — the first British Asian and first Hindu to hold the office. Born in Southampton in 1980 to Indian-origin parents who migrated from East Africa, he studied at Winchester, Oxford (PPE), and Stanford Business School (MBA and as a Fulbright Scholar), and worked at Goldman Sachs and hedge funds before entering politics in 2015 as MP for Richmond (Yorks). He served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury and then Chancellor of the Exchequer (2020–22) during the COVID-19 pandemic, before winning the Conservative leadership after Liz Truss's brief tenure. As PM he oversaw the UK's economic stabilisation, called the July 2024 general election, and lost to Sir Keir Starmer's Labour. He is married to Akshata Murty, daughter of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy.
