Vedanta Limited is India's largest diversified natural-resources company, founded by Anil Agarwal — who began as a scrap-metal trader in Patna and built a global mining group. Vedanta is India's largest producer of aluminium, zinc (through Hindustan Zinc, among the world's biggest integrated zinc producers), and silver, with major businesses in oil & gas (Cairn), iron ore, steel, copper, and commercial power. The group is pursuing a demerger into independent listed companies for each vertical and has committed to net-zero by 2050. Its Nand Ghar initiative — modernised anganwadis providing child nutrition and women's skilling — spans thousands of centres across Indian states, one of corporate India's largest social programmes.
