Payal Kapadia is an Indian filmmaker and the most celebrated Indian director at international film festivals in recent years. Her debut feature All We Imagine as Light (2024) won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival — the first Indian film in competition at Cannes in 30 years — and was India's official submission for the Academy Awards. The film's poetic portrayal of three women in Mumbai earned universal critical acclaim and established her as one of world cinema's most important new voices.
