About

Devdas (2002) is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's lavish adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit. The film was India's official entry to the Oscars and screened at Cannes. It marked the playback singing debut of Shreya Ghoshal (then 17 years old), whose rendition of Bairi Piya and Silsila Ye Chahat Ka won her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer — the beginning of one of India's greatest playback singing careers.
