About

F1 (2025) is an Apple Original Films production directed by Joseph Kosinski — the director of Top Gun: Maverick — and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. The film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a veteran racing driver from the 1990s who is lured back to the sport to mentor a brilliant but arrogant young driver (Damson Idris) on a fictional F1 team called APXGP. What separates F1 from every previous motorsport film is its unprecedented access and authenticity. The production was fully embedded within the real Formula 1 calendar — filming at actual Grand Prix weekends in Las Vegas, Silverstone, Monaco, Abu Dhabi, and Monza. Brad Pitt drove a genuine F2-spec race car at competitive speeds on live circuits. The cameras used — mounted directly on and inside the cars — captured footage that had never been achieved before. Lewis Hamilton's role extended far beyond producing credits. He served as a creative consultant on every aspect of the racing culture depicted — from paddock politics to the physical demands of driving — ensuring that the film respected the sport's community and history. Hans Zimmer's score fuses orchestral grandeur with the mechanical heartbeat of a V10 engine, creating a sonic experience as visceral as the visuals. The film's Las Vegas Grand Prix sequence — filmed across three race weekends — is already considered one of the great action set pieces of the 2020s. F1 grossed over $700 million globally on a $300 million budget and was Apple's highest-grossing original film at the time of release.
