Panipak Wongpattanakit won Thailand's first Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020 (25 July 2021) in women's taekwondo (−49 kg), defeating Kristina Stepanenko in the final. She became a national hero and was awarded the Order of the White Elephant by King Vajiralongkorn. AIS sponsored her national team journey.
