About

Superman (2025) is the first film of James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe and one of the most significant superhero films of the decade. Released July 11, 2025, it stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Kal-El and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane — a fresh casting that immediately captured global attention when announced. Gunn's Superman is not an origin story. It finds Clark already established as Superman in Metropolis, working alongside Lois at the Daily Planet and navigating the tension between his Kryptonian heritage and the deeply human values instilled by Martha and Jonathan Kent. The film is a love letter to the character's essential optimism — a deliberate counterpoint to the grimness that defined much of the DCEU era. The film introduces key new DCU characters who will anchor future projects: Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner / Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo). Its principal antagonists are Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) — a brilliant, self-made tech billionaire — and The Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), working together with a broader, secretive agenda. Shot in Cleveland (standing in for Metropolis) and various international locations, Superman became one of 2025's highest-grossing films globally and reinvigorated audience faith in DC after years of critical and commercial turbulence.
