Roja (1992) is Mani Ratnam's landmark Tamil film about a newly married woman searching for her kidnapped husband in Kashmir. A.R. Rahman composed his debut film score for Roja at age 25 — a groundbreaking fusion of classical Indian, folk, and electronic music that changed Bollywood music forever. The film won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. The title track Roja Jaaneman and Chinna Chinna Aasai remain classics of Indian cinema.
