Sholay (1975), directed by Ramesh Sippy, is universally regarded as the greatest Indian film ever made. Amitabh Bachchan as Jai and Dharmendra as Veeru became the most iconic screen partnership in Bollywood history. Running 286 weeks (5.5 years) at Minerva theatre in Mumbai, Sholay defined an entire era. It won the BBC's 'Film of the Millennium' for Indian cinema. Amitabh's portrayal of the brooding, sacrificial Jai is his finest dramatic work.
